Victoria to Camden Market Walking Tour

An autumn walk from Clapham Junction to Victoria

Image
We took a little (5km) autumn stroll from Clapham Junction in south west London to Victoria in central London. The air was a little chilly with some light drizzle, but it ended up being quite a lovely walk, passing through Battersea Park, across Chelsea Embankment, through Pimlico and finishing the final stretch in Vicotria.  The Arding & Hobbs building built in 1910 and designed by architect James Gibson, is a former department store and Grade II listed building.  📹  Check out these and other attractions in our Clapham Junction to Victoria Autumn Walk video on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel .  📸  See photos from this walk on our  Skint Adventure Instagram account .  Some graffiti on Chelsea Bridge 📍  Check out these key attractions on the route, in the video: Clapham Junction Station Falcon Estate Shillington Park Latchmere Leisure Centre Battersea Park Chelsea Bridge Chelsea Embankment Victoria Station 📖 FUN FACT: Each day more than 2,000 trains, over half of them stopp

An evening walk from Elephant and Castle to Covent Garden

Image
What better way to end a lovely streak of warm weather than an evening walk from Elephant and Castle in south London to the picturesque Covent Garden. This was a lovely short (2.7km) walk passing by some beautiful London landmarks on the south bank, across the river via the Waterloo Bridge and ending on the cobblestoned streets of Covent Garden, at the London Transport Museum.  London Transport Museum in Covent Garden 📹  Check out these and other attractions in our Elephant and Castle to Covent Garden  Walk video on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel.  📸  See photos from this walk on our  Skint Adventure Instagram account .  A view of the River Thames from Waterloo Bridge 📍  Check out these key attractions on the route, in the video: Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre Michael Faraday Memorial Elephant and Castle station St George's Circus The Old Vic The Fire Station Waterloo Waterloo Station Odeon BFI Imax The Royal Waterloo Hospital for Children and Women Waterloo Bridge Hay

Canada Water to Cutty Sark Walking Tour

Image
The weather was starting to change as we set out on this picturesque 4km walk from Canada Water to Cutty Sark. This is a beautiful route looping through lush forests, under bridges and along canals.  It forms part of the Thames Path, a long distance walking trail, following the Thames river for 294 km from the source in a Cotswold meadow to the Thames Barrier in Woolwich. Starting off at Canada Water station we head across to the Stave Hill Ecological Park, passing via Greenland Dock and finally finishing at Cutty Sark. There were so many great pitstops along this route that I'd love to go back and visit, definitely one to add to your list.  📹 Check out these and other attractions in our Canada Water to Cutty Sark Walking Tour video on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel.  📸  See photos from this walk on our Skint Adventure Instagram account .  📍 Check out these key attractions on the route, in the video: Canada Water station Canada Dock Stave Hill Stave Hill Ecological Park Wa

Notting Hill Carnival 2020 Parade Walk - Lansdowne Road to Ladbroke Grove, London

Image
With the biggest annual London event of the summer cancelled this year due to the current pandemic, we decided to take a walk along the usual Notting Hill Carnival parade route to see what the streets looked like without carnival. The route loops around from Ladbroke Grove, down Kensal Road, onto Elkstone Road and along to Westbourne Park. It then heads down Great Western Road onto Chepstone Road then Westbourn Grove and finishing back where we started at Ladbroke Grove.  This walk takes just over an hour and passes by some beautiful churches, really cool pubs and market stalls. It was a pretty weird experience seeing the streets so quiet at this time of year, absent of the usual revellers, floats, feathers, sound systems and jerk chicken. Instead, everything moved online this year and the streets were bare, with the exception of carnival staff and police officers ready to dissuade any potential party starters.  Check out these and other attractions in our Notting Hill Carnival 2020 Pa

Walking Tour: Green Park Station to Kilburn Station

Image
We set out for this walk from Green Park Station to Kilburn Station on a slightly windy, slightly overcast summers day in the city. This is a great walk if you're keen to see some major London landmarks such as Hyde Park and Marble Arch and also get a flavour of some of the more eastern-influenced areas of this diverse city. We even managed to catch a bit of protest action at Marble Arch.  This 7km walk takes around 2hours, but factor in a bit of extra time to stop off at some of the cool locations along the way, such as Speakers Corner and Church Street Market. Check out these and other attractions in our  Green Park Station to Kilburn Station , London video  on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel. This is also a great one if you're not hot with directions as you'll end up walking in a straight line for most of this route.  📌 The key attractions on this route, that you can check out in the video , include: Green Park Green Park Station Hyde Park Park Lane Speakers Corner

Brixton to Central London Walk

Image
We took advantage of the cooler summer weather to take a nice weekend walk from Brixton to Central London and saw some beautiful sights along the way. The current global pandemic has had a significant impact on our usual busy city of London, which meant that even the usual tourist spots were unusually quiet and uncrowded for a Saturday afternoon. This short (7.4km) walk took around 2 hours and is a lovely way to see some of South London's treasures. Check out our  Brixton to Burlington Estate Walk, London video  on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel.  🎞S t ay up to date on all our travel adventures here on the blog by hitting subscribe and make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel for our video walks. London South Bank of the Thames Walking Tour

Image
What to do on a mid-week day off when it's 34 degrees in the city? Well, go for a little walk of course. This short (2.3km) walk on London’s South Bank is a free and easy way to see some of the major tourist attractions whilst strolling along the lovely Thames River. So if you're strapped for cash but keen to see the city sights, this is definitely one I'd recommend. Check out our London South Bank of the Thames Walking Tour video on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel. The main attractions you'll get to see on this route are: Tower of London Tower Bridge City Hall HMS Belfast Borough Market Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre  Tate Modern  We used the AllTrails app for this walk, which mostly worked well, but the phone and web synchronisation is a little patchy with routes and trails saved on the web version not syncing to your app account. The maps could be a bit better and the record function, which is meant to track your walk and provides some handy stats (calories burnt,

Capital Ring Walk Section 5 - Streatham to Wimbledon

Image
We took on London’s Capital Ring Walk Section 5 on a sweltering hot day (34 degrees celcius) in the capital. This 9km walk from Streatham Common to Wimbledon Park is a great city walk featuring some beautiful and quiet residential streets, some cool little alleyways and 3 really large public parks: Tooting Bec Common Wandsworth Common Wimbledon Park The Capital Ring is a 176km (78mile) circular walking route across London. It is divided into 15 sections but it can be started at almost any point. The route stretches from Woolwich in the South East borough of Greenwich, to Becton District Park, in East London borough of Newham. Check out our virtual walking tour of London's Capital Ring Walk Section 5 from Streatham to Wimbledon video on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel. We used the Go Jauntly Walking app for this walk, which worked quite well for directions, but had a few shortcomings, the main two being that the sign up/ login page didn't work so you're unable to sav

Planning our city walking adventures

Image
We started this blog a few years back to capture some of our travel adventures on a shoestring budget. With the recent lockdown restrictions as a result of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, we've had to get creative about our adventures, so we decided to spend some time exploring our own city, London.  We've started a Skint Adventure YouTube channel Since we love walking and travelling on a budget, we thought we’d start filming some of our walks and give you the chance to travel along with us and explore new destinations. We're starting small and keeping it simple, no fancy edits or music, just us exploring on foot and filming everyday life around us with the least amount of video kit possible.  The thing we're most excited about is being tourists in our own city and discovering new sights, sounds and smells that we may not have encountered before or that we've previously been oblivious to because we've been so caught up in the previously busy hustle and bustle o
