London South Bank of the Thames Walking Tour

What to do on a mid-week day off when it's 34 degrees in the city? Well, go for a little walk of course.

This short (2.3km) walk on London’s South Bank is a free and easy way to see some of the major tourist attractions whilst strolling along the lovely Thames River. So if you're strapped for cash but keen to see the city sights, this is definitely one I'd recommend.

View of Tower Bridge, London

Check out our London South Bank of the Thames Walking Tour video on our Skint Adventure YouTube channel. The main attractions you'll get to see on this route are:
  • Tower of London
  • Tower Bridge
  • City Hall
  • HMS Belfast
  • Borough Market
  • Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre
  • Tate Modern

We used the AllTrails app for this walk, which mostly worked well, but the phone and web synchronisation is a little patchy with routes and trails saved on the web version not syncing to your app account. The maps could be a bit better and the record function, which is meant to track your walk and provides some handy stats (calories burnt, bearing, current elevation, elevation gain, battery level, GPS accuracy) was quite unreliable and in the end, only recorded about half of our walk.

We'll be testing out some more walking apps on our future walks to compare them all and see which one works best for our needs.
