Cupcake Heaven

Today we decided to wander out in the rain and explore Knysna town centre, which as it turns out is only a 5min drive from where we are staying. Score!


Since it wasn't really beach weather, we decided to check out the local attractions instead. Knysna central has a bit of a weird setup with a couple of local malls within walking distance of each other and mostly outdoors. 


Needless to say that the outdoorsy malls left us quite wet and longing for a nice warm cuppa. While wondering around Knysna mall we came across a quaint little store called Dinky Cakes.


This place epitomizes cupcake heaven and I fell head over heel in love. Aside from the delicious cupcakes, they also sell a variety of niceties and tasty treats, such as milkshakes, date balls, cute pink stuff, coffees, sandwiches and my personal weakness, Coconut Ice.


With such a wide variety of cupcakes to choose from, Kaif and I found it really difficult to decide on just one cupcake each, some of the flavors included: KitKat, Chocolate Peppermint, Red Velvet and Carrot Cake. In the end we opted to go for the Oreo Cookie Cupcake, the Milktart Cupcake and two mini Christmas Fruit Pies to add to the festivities. 



The cake was amazing and the staff were really friendly, I really felt like a kid in a candy store. If you're passing through Knysna make sure you put this on your hit list, you'll still be licking your lips for hours after....Yum!!!

Wandering Around

After finally getting some rest we managed to drag ourselves out of the hotel and have a walk around the area. We didn't plan anything for the first day. Instead we just walked around and headed in directions that looked interesting. The first thing that struck me was how densely packed the buildings are. Hong Kong is a vertical city covered in towering buildings both old and new. There was a market which had cool looking fishmongers and butchers. Although I couldn't resist going into the bookmakers and snapping a picture of a large group of gamblers eagerly watching a horse race. Near to Causeway Bay we stumbled across a massive parade of Muslim women who were celebrating the beginning of Ramadan. It definitely had a carnival atmosphere. After that, we managed to jump onto a the Star Ferry which is a very frequent (and cheap) ride to get off Hong Kong island and onto Kowloon. Saucy Portions

We headed out into the dense and crowded city yesterday to do some exploring and sample some local delights. Our morning started with a weird breakfast at Tsui Wah in Wan Chai. We opted for two set menus: 1. Scrambled eggs and crispy bun, paired with a bowl of satay beef with instant noodles in soup, and sweet condensed milk tea. 2. Fried egg and soft bun, paired with shredded squid and ham with macaroni in soup, and sweet condensed milk coffee. They really seem to love condensed milk in HK and put it on just about everything, including tea,  toast and waffles. Needless to say this was a whole lot of food and a whole new level of breakfast, which we made a good attempt at, but in the end it was just way too much for first thing in the morning. After a huge breakfast we headed to Wan Chai Computer Centre to check out some electronic gadgets. This place is like Tottenham Court road on steroids. Hiking Lamma Island

Today we visited one of Hong Kong's many islands, Lamma Island. A short 20 minutes ferry ride from Hong Kong Island and we were in the sleepy island of Lamma. It is completely different from Hong Kong. Quiet, picturesque and very slow paced. We followed the trail from Sok Kwu Wan Ferry Pier to Yung Shue Wan Ferry Pier. The route passed through some beaches and a few small (mostly abandoned villages). I really loved the contrast between this small tranquil island and the intense metropolis.
